In the United States alone, over 25 million people suffer from superficial venous reflux disease, a progressive disorder that occurs when the leg veins that keep blood flowing out of the legs and back to the heart become damaged or diseased. Age, gender and family history can all contribute to the presence of venous reflux disease, as well as weight and multiple pregnancies. The ClosureProcedure is a safe, effective alternative to vein stripping surgery, and relieves symptoms with less pain and bruising.
Within a healthy leg vein, a valve opens and closes to control the return of blood to the heart. Venous reflux disease occurs when that valve becomes damaged or diseased, resulting in varicose veins, pain, leg fatigue, swollen limbs or skin ulcers.
Traditionally treated with vein stripping surgery which is often painful, Venous Reflux Disease can be safely treated with non-invasive Closure. Using ultrasound, our fellowship trained radiologist uses a small incision to position a catheter into the diseased vein. The vein wall is heated with radio frequency energy, causing the vein to close and the blood flow to be redirected to healthy veins.
